Daily NEWS from the camp
- 9th July, 2001
- The second camp 2001 started at 9am. All campers arrived safely at the camp and they played
some "get-to-know-each-other" games during the morning.
For lunch they had wraps (which Fiona cooked yesterday). Then they played some Darts and started
preparing for the camp fire show in the evening. These camp fires turn out to be great fun for the
kids.
There will be Pizza for dinner and then they are going to plant some cress and make marmelade.
Later they will have the first camp fire where the kids will perform their shows. Finally, the
group will make a night walk in the nearby area.
The weather was mainly cloudy with a few sunny periods and some scattered showers. The wind
was picking up during the late afternoon and the temperatures range from 11° C in the morning
up to 19° C during the day.
- 10th July, 2001
- This day started with some jogging: the group ran about 1.5km before breakfast! It was
sunny in the morning with about 10° C. For breakfast they had cornflakes, toast, cocoa, tea
and the jam they made yesterday.
During the morning hours they started with their own English diary and they made some... well, that
is a surprise for the parents. We are not allowed to tell it here.
Anyway, for lunch they had hamburgers and veggie-burgers. In the early afternoon they played a hunting game in the
woods called "Predator Prey". The sun was still shining and temperatures raised up to 24° C and
there were no clouds at all. A real summerday for the group!
Then they did some pottery and started to prepare for the tonight's camp fire show and another
big event: Verena's birthday! She is 12 now and there will be some celebration, of course.
Happy Birthday, Verena.
For dinner they will have spaghetti. Finally, after the show(s), there will be a flash light
game in the woods surrounding the camp.
Here are more news hedlines directly from the camp:
- The "Walkie Talkie Boys" were speaking to the NASA. Actually the thought it was the NASA -
or some sort of spacecraft - but it turned out to be a small airplane. Good conditions for
radio signals today...
- Vincent has no sunburn.
- The ears of Thomas are doing ok.
- Jasmin lost a baby-tooth.
- 11th July, 2001
- After the usual breakfast the group went to Dreistetten. They were picked up by the camp bus at 10am and
their first visit was at the Ruine Starhemberg. There they made a quiz and spent the morning.
For lunch they had hot dogs and then the campers drove to the "Waldbad" in Piesting. This was a perfect day
for swimming: in the morning they had already 20° C on the Hohe Wand, and the temperatures went up to 29° C in
the afernoon!
In the evening the kids will receive the emails their parents and friends sent to them during the beginning of this week
(Attention parents & friends: we cannot deliver emails an longer for this camp, so any emails you send
now will not reach the addressee; all emails sent until 2pm will be delivered today, however).
On their return to the Dr. F. Nagl Haus they will be tie-dying t-shirts. For dinner there will be a buffet
and they will perform another camp-fire show in the evening. Today's game in the woods will be "The Big Humsar".
- 12th July, 2001
- After the sunny day the campers had yesterday, this day started with heavy rain and thunder. Temperatures in
the morning were arount 10° C. So the kids had to spend the morning in the house. They enjoyed an Irish Breakfast
(one says that main parts of such a meal consist of beans and toast...) and made some rain sticks afterwards.
During the rest of the morning they played sharade and "Pictionary".
At midday it stopped raining. At least, there was one advantage of this rain: the t-shirts they made yesterday
were washed by mother nature this time. The campers had sandwiches and soup for lunch. Later they started to
make some small clay creatures and they baked them in the oven.
For dinner there will be a chicken BBQ and then it's disco-time in the camp. Although they plan to have
a camp fire tonight it depends on the weather during the rest of the day. Later, when it's dark, there will be
some fireworks for the group to end that last camp evening for this year.
- 13th July, 2001
- The campers had a big "Ghost Night" last night, so they came to bed very late. For breakfast they
had pan cakes. The day started with about 14° C with a few clouds.
After breakfast the group packed and cleaned up the Dr. F. Nagl Haus. This took unusually long this
time so they had only time left for a quick lunch. In the early afternoon the kids went to the Kleine Kanzel.
If there is time left, they will go to the wild-life park.
During the day the clouds disappeared and is was a sunny day with highs of about 25° C. All the campers
are healthy (except one child who was getting a headache this morning).
At returned at 6pm to their parents.
