Daily NEWS from the camp

Monday, July 8^th, 2002

The children have arrived safely at the summer camp on the Hohe Wand. Unfortunalty, 2 girls didn't come along due to sickness. We hope that Victoria and Sophie get well soon and are able to join the camp. The rest of the campers are fine!
After the usual camp setup they had wraps for lunch. In the early afternoon there were some "getting-to-know-each-other" games and a compass game. For dinner they will have Pizza.

In the evening there are plans for a night-walk and a camp-fire.

The weather is fine today: hot and sunny. They had 21°C during noon and up to 26°C are expected for the afternoon. A great start for the second camp this year!

Tuesday, July 9^th, 2002

The children had a wonderful sleep after the night-walk. This morning after breakfast (toast & cereals) the campers made masks and painted them. They look terrific!
For lunch they had Hamburgers. Then they played "Predator Prey", "Murder Ball" (that is "Merkball", btw) and water games - because the temperature today went from some lows of 18°C to highs of 26°C with 100% sunshine. Moderate winds came from thge south.

The children just completed bringing all the fire wood into the shed (roughly 3 m3). By 7pm they were writing the camp diary. After that they will have Spaghetti for dinner.

In the evening there will be a camp-fire and a flash light game. Eventually there is time for a gost story as well.

Gladly, Victory was able to join us yesterday evening. And she is well and happy with almost no more toothache! Still no good news from Sophie, though. The campers wish her all the best and they hope she will able to join soon.

As heard on the phone from all the campers (very loud): "WE ARE HAPPY!".

Wednesday, July 10^th, 2002

After breakfast the campers tie-dyed T-shirts which was fun. For lunch they had Hot Dogs.
Then they made a little walk to the bus station at the "Kleine Kanzel" and headed to the Piestinger Waldbad. This was necessary as the temperatures raise from 20°C in the morning to 26°C at noon on the Hohe Wand. It was about 34°C in Piesting this afternoon - a perfect day for swimming.

At 5pm the children drive back to the camp. For dinner they will enjoy a buffet/BBQ. Then, there will be a big "Fairy Garden" game with 6 additional teachers: Wolfgang, Silvia, Harald, Sabine, Kristina and Andreas will help Danny, Gerry and Fiona to make the game a success.

Thursday, July 11^th, 2002

The Fairy Game proofed to be very fun, but very difficult as the wind was very, very strong.
This morning they had Irish Breakfast and the children loved it. After breakfast the campers made salt dough figures and played "Capture The Flag". It was very exciting.

For lunch they had Tacos and after lunch they painted the salt dough figures. Then they had the "Olympics at the Grosse Kanzel": with these disciplines: "Horse Shoes", darts, ball and spoon race, skipping and "Tug-O-Wars".

By 6:30pm the campers are preparing for a mini playback concert and the evening camp disco with fire works. All the kids are well and improving their language skills.

The weather: this morning 13°C, at lunchtime 19°C and in the evening 12°C (and a storm is on it's way). Looks like a thunderstorm is approaching.

Friday, July 12^th, 2002

After the fire works and the gost story last night the children slept very well.
This morning they had pan cakes for breakfast. After breakfast the kids packed their bags and cleaned up the camp. Then they played darts.

For lunch they had lots of "yummi" things. By 3pm the children were walking to the petting zoo and Danny was closing the camp house.

After the playground, the bus will come and take the children back home.

The weather on the last camp day: sunny in the morning with 15°C, in the afternoon highs of about 21°C. There was no rain during this camp - a premiere for "Our Camp".
